At RCBA, we are passionate about our trade because it allows us to blend artistry with craftsmanship, transforming raw metal into functional tools and works of art. The process of forging, shaping, and perfecting, or highlighting imperfections, in each piece is deeply satisfying, as it requires skill, patience, and a true understanding of the material and the process. For a blacksmith, the forge is a place of both creation and tradition, where centuries-old techniques are kept alive and each strike of the hammer brings something new into existence or gives something old a new purpose. There’s a unique pride in knowing that what we create can last for generations, standing as a testament to our expertise and dedication.
We encourage our members to use touchmarks on each piece they make. A blacksmith’s touchmark is a personal symbol of pride and identity, serving as a mark of craftsmanship and authenticity. It represents the blacksmith’s unique style, skill, and dedication to their work. Just as a signature marks the end of an artist’s painting, the touchmark ensures that every piece crafted carries a story, tied to the hands that forged it. It’s a way for the blacksmith to leave their legacy on the items they create, connecting the past, present, and future with each piece they craft.
Genesis 4:22a “And as for Zillah, she also bore Tubal-Cain, an instructor of every craftsman in bronze and iron.” (NKJV)
Ever wonder why our aprons have a fringe?….
